The magic of Colchis with a glass of Imeretin wine

We will go to the Archaeological Museum of the city of Vani, which was opened in 2020. It was created by true history enthusiasts. You will see exhibits which tell their own story. They enchant and allow you to take the imagination as far back as the 8th century BC. The items come from the ancient town of Vani and the surrounding villages. Part of the exhibition is also in the National Museum in Tbilisi. In Vani we will see an exhibition presenting the ancient Kolkhida civilisation, its wonderful and unique culture, which also refers to mythology.

Vani Archaeological Museum

The first evidence of the civilisation dates back to the 8th century BC, but as a result of invasions it was destroyed in the 1st century BC. You will see hand-made gold jewellery, the precision of which is beyond today's capabilities. Cast candlesticks whose carvings look like living creatures.  Horse accessories, not much different from those of today, but made in the 5th century BC.

Symbol of the called Turkish eye, which existed in ancient Vani even before the beginning of Turkish history. 28 sarcophagi with their history, a child buried in a kvevri (clay amphora). You will see the famous statue tamada statue, which is the design for the one in the fountain in the centre of Kutaisi.
Kolchida treasure is a huge part of the history not only of Georgia, but of the whole antiquity. Anyone who wants to know and understand the history of this region should visit this museum. 

After the tour we will go for a walk in the magical Ajameti Park, where there are characteristic beech trees up to 200 years old. We will learn about the unique fauna and flora of this region. There are specially prepared paths to explore this unique forest.

Then we will drive to Imeretin winery Baia's Wine, where Baia, Gvanca and Giorgi produce exceptional wines in kvevri (clay amphorae) according to an 8,000 year old tradition. Their wines have won many world awards. An Imeretian lunch with delicious dishes combined with wine tasting. We will taste varieties such as Tsitska, Tsolikouri, Otskhanuri Sapere and Krakhuna. All this is waiting for you with its history, traditions and delicious regional dishes from Imereti in a small charming vineyard in Obcha village.

Visit to the winemaker

Information:

  • The tour is organized throughout the year. 
  • The maximum number of persons is 20.
  • The tour starts and ends in the center of Kutaisi. We will pick up our guests from the hotel as well as from the airport. 
  • We speak Polish, English, German, Russian and of course Georgian.
