Vani Archaeological Museum

We will go to the Archaeological Museum of the city of Vaniwhich opened in 2020. It was created by true history enthusiasts.

You will see exhibits that tell their story. They enchant and allow you to transport yourself with the eyes of your imagination even to the the 8th century BC.

The finds come from the ancient town of Vani and the surrounding villages. Part of the exhibition is also at the National Museum in Tbilisi.

In Vani we will see an exhibition depicting the ancient Kolkhida civilisation, its wonderful and unique culture, which also refers to mythology.

The first evidence of the civilisation dates back to the 8th century BC, but as a result of invasions it was destroyed in the 1st century BC. You will see hand-made gold jewellery, the precision of which is beyond today's capabilities. Cast candlesticks whose carvings look like living creatures.  Horse accessories, not much different from those of today, but made in the 5th century BC.

Symbol of the called Turkish eye, which existed in ancient Vani even before the beginning of Turkish history. 28 sarcophagi with their history, a child buried in a kvevri (clay amphora). You will see the famous statue tamada statue, which is the design for the one in the fountain in the centre of Kutaisi.
Kolchida treasure is a huge part of the history not only of Georgia, but of the whole antiquity. Anyone who wants to know and understand the history of this region should visit this museum.
