Prometheus Cave
Prometheus Cave
We start the tour in Kutaisi. We will pick you up from the airport/hotel and set off on the tour. Our first destination will be Prometheus Cave. Here we will see impressive stalactites, stalagmites and and fossilized water curtains.As many as 1,060 meters of the cave are open to the public. An English-speaking guide will show you around its fascinating corridors.
We will then drive to the Martvili-Chkondidi Monastery, built in the late 7th century. Chkondidi was previously a pagan religious center. A great oak tree was located here, which was a pagan temple to the goddess of fertility. The first church was built on the site of a felled oak tree and named after Saint Andrew, who preached Christianity in Megrela. It contains the tomb of King King Bagrat IV, whose contribution to the cultural and educational development of Georgia was enormous.

Our next destination for the day will be the picturesque Martvili Canyon! The canyon is stunning with its picturesque landscape, characterised by steep cliffs, lush vegetation and the crystal clear waters of the Abasha River. It is the ideal place for nature, photography and active leisure enthusiasts. It will be admired from specially prepared viewing platforms and from paths along the canyon. It is possible to take a pontoon boat ride through the canyon with a local guide, which we highly recommend!
The rest of the tour will take you deep into the picturesque Megrelia region!
Next, our road leads to one of the most atmospheric corners of Megrelia, namely Salkhino. It is here, in the former summer residence of the Dadiani princes, that history has harmoniously intertwined with nature, creating a space full of dignity and tranquillity. A relaxing stroll through the vast park awaits, which is famous for its monumental avenues planted with giant, centuries-old plane trees. Their massive crowns form a natural vault under which Georgian aristocrats once strolled. In the heart of this green asylum, we will discover a historic palace and the charming Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a gem of 19th-century sacred architecture.
For those wishing to do so, we have prepared an additional option in the form of a visit to a historical vineyard, where you can indulge in a tasting of unique liquors, including the famous ruby wine from the Ojaleshi strain, which has its micro-zone just in the Salkhino area.

The culmination of this unique trip can be a visit to a unique place - the Taleri Terraces. In a fantastic agritourism complex located on the banks of the Tekhuri River, surrounded by megrel mountains and grape fields. There is a restaurant and a bio vineyard. Traditional regional dishes are made with local bio products, from the farmhouse gardens. Here you can taste the fantastic varieties of megrel wine Ojaleshi, Egudzguri. Savour dishes such as Elarji, Gebjalia, megrel khatch, chachapuri and a host of other dishes. The menu is very extensive.

- In monasteries it is obligatory to wear proper clothing - a headscarf for ladies, covered legs, men - long pants. In most monasteries scarves are available on site.
